Canon EOS cameras through Camera Server's Canon integration. Canon remains the most used and most tested path for multi-camera event rigs.
- Relevant info: Canon is the main event-ready path for Windows, Raspberry Pi, and Mac rigs when the body and tethering setup are tested properly.
- Camera names vary by region. Rebel, numbered, and Kiss names are shown together when known.
Recommended camera setup
Apply these settings to each Canon body before connecting it to the rig:
- Set the main dial to M (manual).
- Keep the lens in AF. Focus with a half-press of the shutter or with the AF back button on supported models.
- On recent models, disable Retract lens on power off in the Custom Functions. This prevents a power cycle from changing the focus position.
- Turn on a 6x4 grid from the Shoot 5 menu. The grid helps with pre-calibration and framing checks.
- Set AF method to 1-point AF.
- Do not use Servo focus on the event rig. This is especially important for the Canon R100 and may also apply to other recent EOS R bodies. Focus the shot, then leave the camera in a stable single-point focus mode.
Canon R100 configuration
For the Canon R100, use these menu settings:
- Settings / Other 3 / Shutter half-press button: AE Lock (while pressed)
- Settings / Other 3 / AE lock button: metering and AF start
- Settings / Shoot 4 / AF method: 1 point AF
- Settings / Shoot 4 / Continuous AF: disable
- For both photo and video, set ISO manually instead of using AUTO.
Video mode setup
Set one camera to video mode once so Camera Server can learn the settings exposed by that body. You do not need to repeat this setup for every camera of the same tested model and firmware combination, but confirm the resulting settings across the rig before an event.
Start with the same stable baseline used for photos:
- Manual exposure mode
- Manual ISO
- 1-point AF
- Continuous AF disabled where the body exposes that option
- Lens left in AF for initial focus, then held at the tested focus position
Test video recording, stopping, file download, and playback on the exact Canon model before relying on video mode in production.
