Xangle Camera Server

Xangle Studio used Xangle Camera Server to automate 200 cameras for a multi-camera photogrammetry station. The system used light to freeze the subject, Kim Henry, by synchronizing ambient lights and strobes with the cameras' exposure.

One of the main challenges in a multi-camera photogrammetry station is triggering all cameras in sync to capture a subject in motion. Even with a precision of 1 ms across all 200 cameras, the mechanical shutter is simply not accurate enough. In this demo, we show how we overcome this limitation by relying on light to freeze the subject. The ambient lights (led strips) go off at the end of the countdown (providing a clear indication for the dancer), and then the 4 strobes fire simultaneously, exactly in the middle of the camera's exposure (with a 1/30s shutter speed).
